Sharada Navratri runs for nine nights from the first day of Ashvina, each night given to a form of Durga. It opens with Ghatasthapana, which has a defined muhurat — generally the first third of the day, avoiding Chitra nakshatra and Vaidhriti yoga. Many observe a fast across all nine days and mark Ashtami or Navami with kanya pujan.
